My name is Vanessa Mataska, Founder of Resting Place Services. I live in a little brick house with my husband and our baby boy in The Woodlands.

My Story

Shortly after retiring, my mom was unexpectedly diagnosed with a terminal illness. After years of working diligently it felt cruel that she wouldn’t get to enjoy her golden years. Thanks to a skilled medical team that kept her comfortable, we spent her final months swimming, cooking, and doing crafts together. Some of my most cherished memories happened in the stillness of the pandemic.

The moment she took her last breath came suddenly and without warning. Experiencing her here one minute and gone the next shifted how I think about creating value in the world.

Resting Place Services is my first venture out of the corporate jungle. It brings together artistry, spirituality, and community. My dream is to help transform Houston’s cemeteries into inspiring, beautiful spaces that honor the departed and make the path of mortality feel less dark and less frightening for all of us.
